The .com distro or the .org gates? Further: Has this question ever been asked or ultimately answered for linUX? There can be several distros (Hopefully!). Including different(ly targetted) ones from Sun. Maybe a distiction between "Desktop Edition", "Laptop Edition", "Server Edition" and so on. Everything of that sort can be done. Most things are in Mercurial gates, including sliminstall/caiman/DC. Everybody can suggest (good) changes for upstream. If not accepted, he can put those things on his own site. Reproducible. Sun does not prevent you. So why making a rant against them? (p.s. I'm not happy with all they do, but let's stay objective. Unlike on a certain blog site.)
