The case under discussion is a fast-track and has already been approved. Fast-tracks don't get written opinions, so there's no vehicle here, and Joerg is not an ARC member, and thus can't write a minority opinion. We could create a new case that proposes using star as-is (with no compatibility fixes) as a replacement for /usr/bin/tar, and then vote on the case. I suspect it'd be denied, and that it'd be a waste of time. However, a summary of objections as a parting shot (and not as an official "Minority Opinion") would be reasonable. I'd even suggest creating a "joerg-objection.txt" file in the case directory to hold that summary for future generations. -- James Carlson, Solaris Networking <james.d.carlson at sun.com> Sun Microsystems / 1 Network Drive 71.232W Vox +1 781 442 2084 MS UBUR02-212 / Burlington MA 01803-2757 42.496N Fax +1 781 442 1677
