Are you asking why not use OGC in the PHB and DMG directly?  Because it
would mean re-editing them.  That would be a huge capital outlay for WotC,
and it would still take months, not to mention they'd have to chew through
their current inventory from the first print run before you'd see it.

The current system is slower than we want, but much faster than editing the
mainstream published works.  Don't forget that Ryan is doing this on his own
time.  If the whole theory of network externalities turns out to be invalid,
WotC is out nothing.
