Title: RE: [Ogf-l] Misperception of OGL Copyright

Soooooo...
Essentially, the D20 magazine thing has absolutely NO Open Content in it then?

I must say, if that's the case then I'm really very dissapointed. I'd be cranky if I wasn't riding the high of Open Psionic products coming down the pipeline.

|
|
|Dear Damian and members of the list,
|
|Please note that the inclusion of the Open Game License on page 17 of
|"Dragon Presents d20 system Special" was not intended to serve as the
|copyright for materials within the magazine. That claim is
|made on page 6
|in the legal indicia that is always present in our
|publications: "No part
|of this magazine may be reproduced (except for review purposes) without
|the prior written permission of the publisher." We printed the
|Open Game
|License to provide a template for readers who have not yet
|downloaded this
|document or the System Reference Document.
|
|Damian had looked at the material presented on page 17 and
|suggested that
|since we had not claimed specific copyright in Section 15 for
|the material
|in the magazine, we had not protected (for example) Wolfgang Bauer's
|"Black Riders and Bone Horses" article. If we were publishing a book of
|articles with no other copyright claim than the OGL, he would
|be correct.
|Since we make the copyright claim on the entire magazine, his
|question is
|moot.
|
|We apologize for not specifically stating on page 17 that we were
|presenting the Open Game License TEMPLATE for the sake of reference. In
|retrospect, I can see that it is not clear. We had wanted it to provide
|reference for the article which follows: "What the heck is a
|d20 system?"
|
|I hope this belated explanation clarifies the situation.
|
