Yes it is a fallacy. But with the new license coming up we see that the
nice warm and fuzziness of the D20 community is secondary to profitability.
In this case, D20 miniatures manufactured by other companies and publishers
that do not require the PHB and DMG take a back seat to the corporate
entity.

There is only ONE thing that guides WotC/Hasbro and that is money, period.
Everything else is secondary. If it isn't a primary goal then it isn't a
fundamental in the way they work or you expect them to work. If WotC
appears to not care about product A (which they have shown) then why would
things be different in the future. Maybe next time they will make it so
publishers cannot make a "Third Edition Rules, First Edition Feel" type
game.

To think otherwise is folly.

There is no malice here or in your words "evil" actions. They are
predictable and make sense.

"No-one believes for a second that WotC are doing this

purely for the love of gaming."

I never said that. In fact, I dont think they are
entirely altruistic. That is moronic. I said dont look
at it as a zero sum game. Look at it as win/win. Ryan
found a way to both 1. create a great game environment
and reward gamers (altrusitic) and 2. help drive
sales.

I was merely responding to the assertion that once
there is a profit motive all other motives are
corrupt. That is a fallacy, though a commonly held
one.
