who asked the question which set this off is essentially talking about a
/fanzine/.
If you wanted to, oh, submit to a major magazine, however, it'd behoove you to go out and get permission--because when they come to sue you later, you can hand your proof of permission to the judge and get the charges dropped. (Of course, it si just a bit more complex than that...)
