Subject: [Ogf-l] Action! System under the OGL?

<< The more we work on the Action! System Open License (let's not worry
about how that acronym might be pronounced for now, thanks <G>) the more we
realize that our goals and the goals of WotC's OGL are almost the same. >>

Without trying to be too much of a Ryan Dancey sycophant, I continue to be
more and more impressed with how the interactions between the two licenses
serve so many business and community goals. At this point, I would find it
wasteful to spend money creating a new license unless I found serious goals
that the OGL and an STL-like license did not cover.

<< After long discussion, we find ourselves asking (as Ryan alluded to in
a
recent post), "Why *not* release the Action! System rules under the OGL and
simply finish development of our Action! System Developer's Guide ("ASDG";
essentially our own version of the STL for our own trademarks and "product
identity")?

So I put the same question to you all here on the list...

Why not release the Action! System rules under the OGL? We accomplish
our goal of making it open content, and via our ASDG we can outline
requirements for use of the trademarks. I have a few concerns but I am
interested in your thoughts. Good or bad, what do you think the overall
effect would be? >>

I think the effects would be good all the way around:

1. You get good licensing at low cost and with minimal effort.

2. The OGL gains credibility, because it's being used in new market niches.

3. Those companies that have already invested time and money into
comprehending the OGL can understand your licensing with minimal effort.

I really hope you follow this path.
