I guess they feel they are creating something totally unique and can
therefore "borrow" different parts, engines, etc. Any purist is going to take
exception with their finished product because, by its nature, it can't be true
to any particular brand.
I recently had a similar choice to make, when I wore out the 350 in my
Cutlass. They wanted to put a GM 468 (454 bored) giving me 550HP, backed by a
700R with overdrive. Sounded great. I would gain the HP but "lose" the Olds.
I've opted for a 455 instead. (The $8750 price tag helped with my decision, but
I wouldn't have done it anyway)
