I'd imagine so, but that's not usually a problem in Houston :) 

Here's another option though, Karen...when my wife's Maxima sustained antenna damage in a car wash (she forgot to turn off the radio), we took the whole works out and just put a manually retractable antenna in its place.  Even with it fully retracted, the radio picked up all the local stations without an issue.  When we went on trips with it, I would extend it some, to pick up distant stations (like when driving to San Antonio).  The other thing I liked about that method was that it cleaned up the lines of the car somewhat when the antenna was all the way down.
