I don't know about fixing the cover, but you should be able to pull
the antenna mast out. Normally if it doesn't go down, but the motor
runs, usually what's happened is that the nylon linear gear attached
to the bottom of the mast has broken. You should be able to pull the
mast completely out by removing the nut at the top of the base. Cut
off the remaining nylon, then put the mast and nut back on. You
should be able to manually raise and lower the antenna now. It
probably won't stay up well, as they are loose to allow the motor to
push it up. Some stereo shops can replace the mast, if the motor and
it's clutch are still good, i.e. it's just the nylon that's broken.
They'll usually have to remove the antenna from the car, because
there'll likely be the broken bit of nylon still on the reel inside.
We did this pretty often at the stereo shop I worked at. Customers
were much relieved to find that they didn't have to replace the whole
thing.

Subject: My Olds car cover
Just cranker her up tonight, and while removing cover
from tailpipe area/front grille...noticed hole has
worked through over antenna.
This is my NEW waterproof cover and is working well
keeping water out (my leaky firewall area). Now water
will be getting in again!
Problem is my antenna motor has not worked for some
time (doesn't go down) and I cannot push in down past
a foot sticking up.
1) Any ideas on how to patch the hole in car cover (no
patch came with this one)
AND
2) How can I make antenna go down more without
removing whole unit?
Thanks.
