FYI: smart-1.5 was released last week. smart is also in use by Poky/Yocto,
who tried zypper, but changed to smart as being more reliable (and also
supports both *.deb and *.rpm channels, which is what Poky/Yocto is about
with OpenEmbedded and BitBake).

Unity was perfectly happy with smart as well.

And yum is hardly "dead", though desperately in need of "dandification"
(the current DNF mnemonic), as the code was organically grown and
needs rational/sane refactoring.
