[Winona Online Democracy]
A friend of mine has a 19 yr old daughter who recently was picked up for
DUI. Previously this summer she's had two minor consumptions. Clearly this
girl has a problem with alcohol. After the DUI the judge ordered her to
stop drinking and two days later she was drinking again. My point is- why
don't we come down harder on these kids early in the game? She's getting
fines and nothing else so far. She hasn't had her court date for the DUI
yet, but if she gets ordered into a chemical dependancy evaluation,
treatment and/or jail time- which I think she desperately needs- I'll be
surprised. I think we need to convey to these kids that this is serious,
they think it's a joke.- Maybe the Judge could respond about what the law
says about minor consumption etc, and how well judges follow guidelines.
