Scott,
Indeed there is. Earlier this week, Eric Bartleson sent out a request to
all principals and school board members to start gathering information to
"(identify) mandates in state law and rule that should be eliminated as well
as those you consider unfunded", so the requests should be getting to
teachers pretty soon. Many of the identified mandates will fall into the
areas of business operations and administration, but I bet we'll identify a
lot of direct student-related issues as well. Feel free to jump right in
and start listing - most of us are salivating at the opportunity to let the
state bureaucracy know what we think of the regulations we work under. The
request from the state was as follows:
"In developing your list, please place them in one or both of the
following categories: 1) Mandates that should be repealed because they do
not promote public education, or 2) Mandates that you consider unfunded.
Please provide the statute or rule citation, if possible, for any
mandate that you note"
