I never said the collision occurred in their space. I said: "I don't
know if the collision itself occurred in their airspace or international,
however."
As for the Navy plane not having entered Chinese airspace at all, I only
repeated what Nightline reported last night. They said that spy planes
often fly into the other country's airspace in order to entice a response
so that the spying nation can monitor radio frequencies and whatnot. They
(Nightline) suspected that's what happened in this case. The spy plane
cannot activate the other nation's air defense if they don't fly into their
space.
But, I don't know. I wasn't there. I can only rely on what I read and hear.
I sense the tone of this discussion turning a bit argumentative. I will
not get into an argument. I said what I know from what I've heard and
read. Perhaps your sources have reported something different. Given the
conflicting reports between the U.S. and China and given the sensitive
nature of the spy plane's mission, it's hard to know exactly what happened
since it's hard to know who's lying and who's not.
