While I think we have far more compelling issues to deal with than this one,
and I am remiss in not addressing them in earlier posts, I'll break the ice
now because this issue appears to be a no-brainer, but I am ready to be
surprised.

If the Law Enforcement people would ticket only the most obvious (loudest)
offenders who clearly disregard the peace of the environment, I'd be happy
to live with the occasional somewhat louder motorcycle running, for example,
in the countryside and even at the bridge - provided they are leaving
Minnesota. :) .And let us not ignore the cars with such huge sound systems
that you can hear and _feel_ them two hundred feet away.

Regarding the motorcycles, most of the worst cases are Harleys running
'straight pipes' - no mufflers whatsoever. Riders of such machines have
irrational and unsupportable claims to the virtues of straight pipes or
inordinately loud mufflers. I've listened to the arguments during the
thirty-five years I spent riding and building motorcycles, many of them
Harleys. There is no rationale for running straight pipes on the street.
Period. The arguments supporting loud bikes are utterly stupid. Ticket the
obvious cases. But don't use the issue of noise control in a manner that
might be harassing.
