Just to inform the community: the problem had nothing to do with ooRexx on MacOS. The student has become able to successfully use BSF4ooRexx, after deinstalling all Java versions on the Apple, reboot, and installing in this case Oracle's Java 1.8.0_251 followed by installing BSF4ooRexx for MacOS (which currently includes ooRexx).
