This would bloat our drivers a little, but we could have different
levels of fall-back that our drivers can handle, depending on what
services are available.  There would be a kernel interface to the
memory manager that's "just there" in up-to-date kernels.  If
something tries to use the interface but the daemon isn't going to be
there, then the kernel driver automatically splits the graphics memory
in half and lets X11 and OpenGL do their own memory management.

I mean, early in development, we're going to do things in a primitive
way anyhow.  As things get more advanced, we'll just keep the "old
way" hanging around to use in case the "new way" isn't all there.
