It would be very nice if the people writing device drivers were smart, but that is not always the case. For example, a card comes with a Linux driver FROM THE MANUFACTURER and the driver USES THE WRONG CHIP, and therefore does not work correctly. This same manufacturer claims to provide support, but refuses to provide any documentation for the chips used.
