I agree that some of what was said doesn't quite add up.
There is no reason for a display to not accept a HDCP-less signal.
I agree, but this isn't the question.
There may be displays out there that behave this way, but it wouldn't
be the first time a bug or misfeature made it out the door.
It is certainly a misfeature unless the HDCP license requires it.
The article states:

resolutions higher than 1280×720 pixels.
Can we determine if this is true.

This clearly states that White Box computers won't be able to play
HD-DVDs. This makes even less sense since this I thought that this was
a software issue and there is no way Vista is going to know who
assembled your system -- drivers are for components, not for the entire
system.
