Consider portability. I'm about to exercise, and my laptop fits well on top of a shelf I have near the elliptical machine - watching something is a good distraction while I use the machine. (In fact I usually watch web videos or listen to Internet radio, but I could watch DVDs.)

Travellers also might take movies with them for a plane or hotel room.
