If the UMA stuff from Rogelio will be possible (e.g. by designing a new
northbridge) wouldn't it be possible to make a mass-multiprocessing
mainboard using non-smp enabled cpus?

How much does SMP need direct hw support (cache coherency?), could this
be eliminated by sw ? (patching the kernel to assign processes to cpu
wisely?).

It would be nice to have a scalable platform, where you could put A
cpu's, B GB of ram, C gpu's, D display output ports, E dsp boards and so
on - all sharing one address space. Maybe with hotplug.. small home
mainframe - you just extend it / don't need to throw away parts every
2-3 years because interfaces change (isa,pci,agp,pcie / sdr,ddr,ddr2 /
vga/dvi/hdmi/dvi-dl).
