Well, here in Germany DHL tends to handle stuff much more carefully than UPSi (personal experience only). But the situation might be totally different in the US, esp. as larger stuff here is automatically insured, so whatever they break they have to pay. Maybe it is affordable to send it as breakable insured over something like $5000? That might convince them to handle it more carefully.
