you making demands on us, and why haven't I noticed you pitching in
any code that would help us move along faster?

Certainly, you're not the only person to make suggestions without
contributing code, art, text, or any other original material.  But
many suggestions, such as the recent one by Roger Luethi, are
insightful because they show concern for our success and discuss
high-level strategy about things where we're clearly not mindful of
the right thing to do.  Your suggestion to "do VGA first" is out of
turn because we already very well know that this is important to do,
and we have already acid-tested the hardware.  We welcome your
criticism, but we prefer it when it's constructive.

The main thing was to having something basic working so that i could
experiment with graphical windowing alterations in the way X worked,
as well as having a real driver that could be used.

I've programmed xilinx and altera fpgas before, but is completely
tangential to what i'm working on.

The faster hardware gets, the more stupid programmers become, which
is why X and everything on top it runs slower and bloated than ever
despite hardware accelerated 3D cards.

With decent programming, a 2D card can do everything one wants for
a 3D-look desktop that doesn't involve real-time movements like
those cube gimmicks on some openGL compositing managers. Those are
just a non-productive gimmick anyway.
