Here's something I put together to get us started on writing an
announcement. I'm looking for feedback.

I don't know much about the development process, but I try to keep an eye on things here.

I tried to simplify the text a bit to make it easier to get this around, and to read for people who don't know about OGP yet. You may also want to throw in a quote or two.

Hope this helps.

Beta release 0.5 of open graphics card

Open Graphics Project and Open Hardware Foundation, [date]

The Open Graphics Project is closing in on delivering a fully open graphics card. Much effort has been dedicated to developing the underlying OGD1 infrastructure, using FPGAs for easy reprogramming.

OGD1 is available for pre-order and so far has mainly been of interest for hardware development, but with this new release it can be plugged into a computer as a secondary graphics card. It can drive two monitors, one of which can be analog, with resolutions up to 2048x1536. (This is designated as a beta release since we expect to work out some remaining bugs, but showstoppers have been eliminated.)

Support for 80x25 text mode is planned for release 1.0, which will allow for using the OGD1 as a primary graphics card in a PC. The hardware infrastructure is already in place, so all that is left is a VGA BIOS and microcode for the microcontroller that handles the hardware emulation. The priority after that is to support some VGA graphics modes for a 1.5 release.

If you are interested in OGD1, the Open Graphics Project, the Open Hardware Foundation, or open hardware in general, check us out at the links provided below. The OGD1 development platform retails for $1200, and discounts are available via the OHF.
