So you got a database setup with the name "ssp" then?. Can you login with your user and password from the terminal in the shell (or that is from another client)?

I am sure you know this but just in case. In the shell just do a;

mysql -u <yourusername> -p

as <yourusername> is replaced with the db user (without the "<>" part)
