I have not tried webmin with newer versions of Ubuntu, but I can't imagine any incompatibility lasting very long. Different group to ask there!

It may have failed because /etc/init.d/ is a very sensitive area security-wise, could be owned by a different group or user than whatever the installer ran as. Perhaps a change in 10.4, or something else you ran?

You may try temporarily chmod'ing to 777 just long enough to run the installer. Just be sure to set it back again, you don't want any user out there adding scripts to your system startup.

I imagine that Jordan might chime in later on with some installer thoughts (he wrote it) but if you can load the cf test page and admin section in your browser, I don't think there's a lot more to install beyond that startup gizmo.
