well, not exactly.
as far as i understood you, you want to drop the ".gz" suffix,
and i was suggesting to drop the ".tar" suffix as well.
having .gz files in a .gz file is just a little waste of space,
having .tar files in a .tar file is IMHO pretty inconvenient.

ok, if you insist on having third party modules as .tar.gz files (well,
why not), you should at least turn off RCS keyword substitution on them!
