i don't know.
perhaps we should decide the fs layout first? :-)
or perhaps fs layouts (plural), a standard one and common deviations.
(for example there is or was a linux file system hierarchy standard,
i don't know how strict it is and how closely it is followed by the
distributions.)

in- and outbound what?
data?  in that case i would name the vars differently.
why so deeply hidden?
who is supposed to put them there and take it from there?
