Hi guys,

after some discussions because of problems with the translation files there is a new proposal.

Problem

If we fix typos or add new parameters then all translations are broken. This is a critical issue because many translators only want to translate all the strings once (we are not KDE with hundreds of translators and other supporters).

Today

$self->setError (1234567,
$self->{gettext} ("File __var__ is missing.", "__var__" $var));

Proposal

$self->setError (OPENCA_I18N_MODULE_AC_INIT_NO_FILE);

We have a global hash where we can get an errornumber for this string. Additionally this string is present in our openca.pot file. The advantage is that even a new parameter does not break the existing translations if they were not updated and these strings are really easy to identify. The disadvantage is that we need an english translation (and we loose all existing translations).

I discussed this change a while ago with Til Obes. Now what do you think about it? If you agree then we can start to migrate the i18n stuff slowly. Especially I hope for comments from Janez (he reviewed the pot files for the last time and I have the feeling that it was a little bit too horrible).
