Hi, 
   I just happened to be able to answer your question :) What you need
   is mpeg_encoder. You can find Berkeley mpeg_encoder very useful in
   this aspect. You can then save continuously in miff format or others.
   Then convert should do the rest. I don't know much of convert, but it
   seems the whole conversion process takes a lot of memory. Hope this
   helps.
