I have done this by using image magick to convert the DX tiff files to
JPG & ftp'ing to a Windows box to build the animation. If you are running
under Windows, this may be best. I grabbed a few free packages from
www.webattack.com (search for mpeg) and played with those to build the
animation.

I have also used Berkeley mpeg-encode under Linux, tho the output (so far)
is a not very portable mpeg.

Another option I'm planning to look at is jimage, a free image anaysis
package running under Java. Supposedly you can add a sequence of images to
a stack, & output a movie.


Not a lot of help, but maybe some pointers....
