It's a grunty machine, so it's wasted just running Openfiler....also, it's

Then you chose the wrong distro to host on IMHO. If it's not a
production box, I suggest you reprovision with Ubuntu on bare metal
(you'd get the best consumer hardware support) and OF in a VM.
Another option would be to migrate from 2.2 to 2.3 -- but that's
probably going to open up a whole 'nother can of worms -- so unless you
plan on going on a fishing expedition soon (or run the local bait shop)
you might want to with the former.

What exactly are you running on this box? I thought this was an OpenFiler
system? If so, you really shouldn't also be using it for running Virtual
Machines (except as storage).
In any case, it sounds like the card you've got just isn't supported (have
you tested it under a different distro?). I wasn't able to find anything on
USB Controllers showing up as audio devices so I really don't know where to
go from here.

Yup - I've got a Doro Skype box plugged in. I should be able to assign it to
the VM I've got running, but in the VM Console, there are no USB devices
available to assign

Have you plugged anything into the card to see if it works anyway?

Hi Jason
I think the problem goes further though - the OS is recognising the card
as
audio card

From what you've described that's normal. "USB Devices" should only
show
devices that are plugged in via USB, not those that provide USB
connectivity. If you've got a USB device plugged into the card that
isn't
working then that's something else.

Subject: [OF-users] USB Problem
Hi all
I've just installed an NEC based USB card in my Openfiler box (Onboard
USB
is not working....known problem with Tyan Tiger), but it's showing up in
the
hardware information as follows:
PCI Devices
- (2x) Audio device: NEC Corporation USB
- Audio device: NEC Corporation USB 2.0
while under USB in hardware information:
USB Devices none
I'm running 2.2, kernel version 2.6.17.11-1.1.smp.x86.i686.cmov (SMP)
Anyone know how to fix this?
regards
Frank
