Brian-
Excellent point in comparing/contrasting Linux
developers vs Open Source Health Care system
developers.
Re: you comment on developers actively using health
care systems: Just as physician/programmers have
emerged to improve clinical information systems, there
are growing numbers of system developers/medical
specialists working in health care as RN's, PAs as
well as working in the hospital/clinic environment as
medical techs (Paramedics, EMTs, and cardiology
techs).
More health care organizations are realizing the
benefits of employing professionals that can
(simultaneously) address an organizations need for
informatics development and health care service
delivery.
You may indeed find more IS/IT development
professionals utilizing (and implementing improvements
to) health care systems on a daily basis, as they go
about practicing their medical specialty in health
care organizations.
