It's set fairly reasonably:

  max_connections = 128

Number of current connections seems ok as well:

 ps aux |grep postg | wc -l
 58


The strange thing is that it carries on and does _some_ of the interface
directories.


I wonder what can be done to debug this?

And just to put my mind at ease - due to the time based nature of RRD files,
is there any penalty for waiting a "long time" between the data merges?
