If breakpoints can be ignored/resumed automatically using this event handler mechanism then, in my opinion, this arguably renders moot the suggestion of adding a flag and logic to OpenOCD to run in "standalone mode" and do the same thing. Especially since such a change might not be desirable generally given the risk of unintended consequences.
