the merge is in progress, heavy progress even.
The result is called modrex, a module added to opensim.
All the classic opensim functionalities are there ( hypergrid for exmple)
and you gor the new rendering engine.

The issues :
 actually the viewer is window only
 SL avatar are not rendered in ReX
 ReX avt are not rendered in SLviewer

The + :
 New meshes
 Import from most of the main 3D software
 Ogre3d
