Dear Robert:

Thats a good point and I think worth a "+1".

Lets just move forward and declare the OpenSim part of the Metaverse to be
based on UTC for events, scripts and whatever.

We are trying to express "Office Hour" for the developers held on Wright Plaza
each Tuesday as 1900 UTC and ignore the daylight/standard time shift twice a
year in some places.

Also, some of us are ensuring that our region servers are setup as UTC for
their timezone and getting used to expressing times like that.

So, ... I would say, "Yes". Lets just start using UTC and as we find each rock
in the way, why, we'll bring out the virtual rock crusher, fix it, and move on.

Charles

Subject: Re: [Opensim-users] Correcting Metaverse Time

When I first approached this topic I failed to separate out the server from
the viewer. Servers are what they are and I am not proposing we touch that
part. Just trying to move us away from using SLT for activities and such
because it gets confusing. I for one plan on leaving the whole SL thing
behind in favor of OpenSim and using constant references to SLT will be
clumsy for clients new to the metaverse.

So maybe the questions for this thread becomes:
What would be the best ways we can start using UTC now? Event planning?
Scripting? Activities on our own regions? Do we have to wait for the viewers
to be adjusted? Is it as simple as we just start doing stuff in UTC and not
reference SLT anymore? What parts do we leave for the future?
