The opensocial API is independent of the current APIs; the idea is that all networks that support opensocial, will implement the same DATA API.
Obviously some parts of the data API will be platform specific since some features are only available on one platform, but at least a very large set of shared functionalirty will be availabile though both the JS opensocial API and the opensocial DATA API.
