Strangely I was just asking questions about OpenGL last night on the IRC
channel and got little in the way of responses.

I had just finished my install of S10U2 on an IBM dual Opteron unit which
had an ATI RAGE XL or something like that, in any caseupon first boot I
decided to login remotely via dtlogin to my Solaris 8 x86 server :

  http://www.blastwave.org/dclarke/OpenGL.txt

The info there shows me that indeed my display has the GLX and SGI-GLX
extensions. I then thought that I could perhaps get glxgears running or
something from the GLUT toolkit. No way on Solaris 8 x86 but no problem on
Solaris 8 Sparc. Further example of the historical differences between the
two architectures. Certainly Solaris 10 addresses that.

In any case I was not able to get much done with OpenGL from Sun on Solaris
8 x86.

Thankfully Ken Mays has the Mesa3D gear ( http://www.mesa3d.org/ ) all
packages up from Blastwave ( http://www.blastwave.org/packages.php/mesalibs
) which allows the FlightGear Flight Simulator to run etc etc.

But what the heck is open really about OpenGL ?
