The problem with open sourcing CDE is that it is owned by *a pile* of
companies, including IBM, hp, ... Just look at the credits and copyrights. Good
luck to anyone trying to open source that.

And to bring CDE into the 21. century, one would need an army of skilled
X/Motif engineers... good luck to anyone trying to find that too.

Oh yeah, and then there this Motif toolkit issue. It just so happens that CDE
is built on top and with Motif, which just so happens to be a hardcore
proprietary product... um, good luck on getting that opensourced too.

Well, in a way it is - see:

        http://www.openmotif.org

just that about every CDE vendor spins their own version, and Motif isn't quite exactly equal to Motif ...

FrankH.

So, now that we got all these small insignificant hurdles listed... who's
willing to dish out a few million dollars to get CDE and Motif open sourced?
Out of one's private bank accounts, checking or savings -- I assure you, you
can use both when paying up, no problem!
