Asus BIOSes are buggy. They cause grief on Linux as well with their
broken APIC tables. With Asus products, I have had to set noapic or
acpi=off to get a stable box when running Linux. I guess snv_61 has
stuff to work around buggy BIOSes?

I have heard good reports about A-Bit motherboards (on Linux) if you
want to try a cheaper alternative to those solid Tyan boards.
