Why would you even care about the warranty? Let's say you're running a mission critical environment. If you are, then you are running clusters! And if you're running clusters, and a whole server goes up in smoke, dang it, you take another one of those "generic" servers, give it juice, PXE netboot it, put the cluster config packages, have the newly configured node join the cluster, and plough on like nothing ever happened. "Generic" servers are so cheap in comparison, that for the price of the 3-yr support, you can afford a spare system as a standby. They're so cheap, one can afford to throw this stuff away instead of fixing it! The future isn't in charging an arm and a leg, sometimes 3x the normal price, for hard disks memory and CPUs, but having low profit margins and going for the volume. Something Sun still doesn't get.
