It's twofold.

On one side, you could expect that any changes made are just optimizations, 
rather small and easy to rewrite under another license if necessary.

On the other side, and that bugs me a lot, they could introduce breaking 
changes, under GPL. Linux has a larger userbase, so it might be possible that 
any changes they make may just become defacto. I'd prefer if Sun continues 
having control on ZFS' development instead of just a bunch of kernel hackers 
that design on the whim (that's how it looks on the outside).
