It's twofold. On one side, you could expect that any changes made are just optimizations, rather small and easy to rewrite under another license if necessary. On the other side, and that bugs me a lot, they could introduce breaking changes, under GPL. Linux has a larger userbase, so it might be possible that any changes they make may just become defacto.
