It's not over. But if the rumors are correct, there are two movements in the
board of directors. One led by Schwartz who believes Sun should sell and the
other led by McNealy who doesn't. I'll side with McNealy for keeping Sun
independent. Sun needs strong and visionary leadership to get out of this
economic while. While Sun is not doing soo bad that they have to sell-out, it
would appear some folks at the top are out of steam and looking for a quick
parachute jump. I think that's just shortsighted and the folks of that camp
should be dropped off the bus right now. Sun has a great product line-up and
really needs to get the message out. I'm doing my part by helping companies
consolidate and virtualize, which gets them onto new Sun hardware and Solaris
10.

Sun needs to do more to get the message out and help companies do upgrades. The
biggest problem is not the lack of Sun products in the field, believe me there
is a plethora of Sun gear out in the wild. The problem is that people don't
upgrade because it "just works". This is both good and bad. Good in the sense
that customers are happy with their old Sun gear, bad in the sense that they
don't see the value in upgrading and thusly spending money. Remember, change is
the greatest fear for businesses. Sun needs to address this problem above all
else. Sun has the right products and pricing. It's the "how do I get from here
to there?" problem that's plaguing sales. Instead of spending all that money on
STK and MySQL, Sun should have bought something like EDS to have a strong PS
and services division.

So the latest rumor is that the rumored deal will not happen :-).
The only clear thing, based on Intel CEOs statement, is that Sun looks for a
potential buyer...
This is not over yet...
