I totally agree. Sun was always being too nice and passive with customers. Great when you needed advice and a solution that works. Bad when you're up against IBM and HP in bidding wars. Oracle while being "all business", is not a bad thing. It means they'll put the investment in the technology where it makes the most sense and work hard to make the sales and compete. Sun always had great technology and services. But marketing and sales was always a challenge. I think Sun actually did better when they depended on VARs. Things went bad when they took on the sales and they pushed many of the small VARs out of business. Sun should have either hired or bought the best VARs out back in the day to build a good sales force.

Sun was trying to play a nice guy, but failed miserably. That has affected not only Sun and Sun's shareholders, but also many of Sun's career employees. Of course Oracle could be a little bit more open, but pendulum swings. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
