OK. The 2D ATI RADEON driver is part of the Xorg package.

Looks like something is preventing autoconfiguration .
Please run the

# /usr/X11/bin/xorgconfig

utility and answer all the questions about your Keyboard Mouse screen and
graphics card.
the card database has option 7 for ATI Radeon .

Save the resulting xorg.conf file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

Other problems that could play a part here is that you might have an unusual
Screen.
If your screen has odd resolutions like 1680x1050 you possibly need to
generate
a "ModeLine" to be placeed inside the xorg.conf file in
Section Monitor like this monitor I have.

Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "Monitor0"
    VendorName "Samsung"
    ModelName "242MP"
    HorizSync 31.5 - 64.3
    VertRefresh 40.0 - 90.0
    ModeLine "1920x1200" 154.0 1920 2048 2256 2592 1200 1201 1204 1242
+hsync -vsync
EndSection

You generate Modelines with the CVT program : for a TFT screen
1680x1050x60 :

/usr/X11/bin/cvt -r 1680 1050 60
# 1680x1050 59.88 Hz (CVT 1.76MA-R) hsync: 64.67 kHz; pclk: 119.00 MHz
Modeline "1680x1050R" 119.00 1680 1728 1760 1840 1050 1053 1059 1080 +hsync
-vsync
