You download the server software from SUN.com and try it for 90 days. If you are happy, you can pay. It's not that expensive. You can buy a refurbished SunRay for 40USD on ebay, download the server software and try. The SunRay server software will be available as a download via IPS in a couple of months.
I am waiting for that IPS package, as I dont know how to install it for OpenSolaris. The install instructions are for Solaris 10. There are install instructions for OpenSolaris 2008.11 but I couldnt get it to work. Then I could have my quad core in the basement, and SunRay 2, that uses 4W in each room. Or, I could give SunRay2 to all my neighbours and they could ditch their computer. SunRay also connects to the server via internet. Combine with a Terabyte ZFS raid and you have a nice solution.
