Tried; no joy. I can give it 512 + 64, but anything more than that
brings the host OS to the point of being unusable. I'm pretty sure
the OpenSolaris instance in the VM is also suffering from lack of RAM,
possibly to the point of fork() or malloc() failing.

As I said before, Intel Mac Mini (recent); Intel Core 2 Duo (Merom) CPU at
2.0GHz.
Graphics are Intel GMA 950; no idea what the rest of the chips are. I think the
kicker is that I only have 1GB RAM right now. If I had 2, I could give the VM
1 and
it would probably do fine. Which is why I wish that either preloaded vdi
images,
or a text installer (less RAM hungry) were available; Solaris can run (esp.
with
swap available) with less RAM than it needs during installation (although of
course
with that little RAM, hungry apps will perform poorly).
