I was at my local Big Box store armed with an OpenSolaris LiveCD testing out various models to see what machines would work... incidentally, I ended up buying a Toshiba that ALL the hardware was supported on.
Anyway, I had the same experience with the CD starting to run and then all of a sudden stop. It's the SATA drivers. If you go into the BIOS and change the sata operation from native to "compatibility" mode, your laptop will boot just fine. Hopefully the Compaq allows you to change the operation mode. HP is famous for crippling their BIOS's so that they reall only work with Windows Style OS's. Hope this helps you, Bob -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
