This is an awesome link for how to create a bootable ZFS root mirror in Indiana OpenSolaris 2008.05, which is what I think you're trying to do:

If one hard drive goes bad, you can just boot up from the other one without having to mess around, and that's pretty much how I set up my ZFS mirrored software RAID configuration. Later on I shrunk the size of my windows partition on a third drive so that I could format the rest of the empty space on that third drive as a Solaris partition and then I had ZFS mirror my data on three drives (just because I'm extra paranoid). But doing that was more involved and would be the topic of another discussion thread.
